01

Choose the right format

Cakes are a compact dried format that can be broken down for composting. Powder is easier to mix and distribute. Sun-drying alone does not establish that manure is fully composted or free of pathogens; confirm maturity and suitability before agricultural use.

  • Cakes — break up and compost where further decomposition is needed
  • Powder — use mature, well-composted material for soil incorporation or blending
  • Supply specification — confirm processing, moisture, maturity, packing and intended use
02

Potential soil benefits

Well-composted cow dung adds organic matter. The result depends on the material, soil, crop and management; it is not a substitute for a soil test or a balanced nutrient programme.

  • Soil structure — can improve aggregation and tilth
  • Moisture retention — organic matter can help soil hold water
  • Soil biology — provides organic material for beneficial soil organisms
  • Nutrient cycling — supplies variable amounts of nutrients as material decomposes
03

Application in farming

  • Before planting — spread mature compost evenly and incorporate into the upper soil as advised for the crop
  • Established crops — apply around the root zone, keeping clear of stems and trunks, and incorporate gently where appropriate
  • Nurseries and potting media — blend only mature, suitable material; trial a small batch first
  • Composting — break up cakes and combine with dry plant residues, managing moisture and aeration until mature
04

Rates and responsible handling

Confirm the application rate with a local agronomist using soil results, crop nutrient requirements and the product analysis. No universal dose is suitable for every field. Avoid fresh or insufficiently composted dung on edible crops, follow local food-safety intervals, wear gloves, wash hands, and keep material out of watercourses. Store covered and dry. Do not apply as a foliar spray.

  • Confirm maturity, nutrient analysis and any relevant contaminant or pathogen testing
  • Avoid direct contact with edible leaves, fruit and harvested produce
  • No medicinal, certified-organic or guaranteed-yield claims are made
  • For exports, verify destination-specific import and biosecurity requirements
